Settling into a freshly acquired abode, even if just for a couple of months, often makes supremely obvious what absolutely must be remodeled to accommodate new homeowners. Minor, previously unnoticed details not expected to so drastically impact day-to-day life reveal themselves and the wish list put together prior to move-in starts to look very different from the one scribbled post-making-your-coffee-in-that-kitchen-every-day.
Our clients spent several years dreaming up all the ways they would make their family home fully their own before we ever met them. Prior to purchase, the home had been remodeled in the early aughts and was full of shiny surfaces and awkward architectural details that did no favors to its generous ocean views and expansive square footage. Nothing felt like it was theirs - from the polished marble floors to the classical column in the living room, the home felt like a dated mishmash of eras when our clients had their sights set on a thoroughly modern interior. The beauty of waiting to remodel was that having spent several patient years kicking their heels around the house, they knew its every nook and cranny; knew how they used each room and what upgrades would better their daily life; and, most important of all, they knew what they could live without and what they couldn’t. By the time we met with them, they were raring to break out the sledgehammers so we quickly set about fine tuning their wish list, honing in on the spot where modern refinement, laidback California cool, and easeful function meet.
