Black Lacquer Design was established with the notion that almost every room can benefit from a bit of black and a little lacquer.

Since its inception in 2014, the firm has received a number of accolades for outstanding residential and commercial work, most recently being named one of the nation's fifteen "Fresh Faces of Design" for 2017 by Luxe Magazine. Black Lacquer is serious about execution and aesthetic but ultimately, believes that it's all about constructing a fulfilling and beautiful life. The spaces we inhabit most should both satisfy and inspire.

Whether your space is craving a small cosmetic change or in need of a complete overhaul, we have exciting answers (and promise lots of fun along the way!).

Caitlin Murray, Founder & CEO

Precociously organized and object obsessed, Caitlin grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana as the daughter of two attorneys and older sister to a future neuroscientist. She had the opportunity to explore the arts at an early age thanks to a progressive academic curriculum and parents who championed creative pursuits like ceramics, drawing, knitting, curating (i.e. shopping!) and an endless array of crafts.

Caitlin earned a B.A. in journalism and art history from Indiana University in 2008 followed by a degree in interior design from the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising. Several years of building a career in the industry with acclaimed firms including House of Honey and MASHstudios led to launching and co-founding her first company, Caitlin & Caitlin, in 2012.

C&C quickly became a celebrated studio across the editorial sphere with top design publications and bloggers alike. Thanks to praise from press and plenty of client love, Caitlin spent two and a half years growing the firm and developing an array of notable projects before branching out.

Always an enthusiast for living well, Caitlin's eclectic personal style is a reflection of modern sensibilities and her love for fabulous design from decades past. She believes in creating spaces that are chic, smart, soulful, personal and delightful. Though every project inspires a completely unique concept, each of her interiors feels simultaneously cozy, glamorous and fresh.

Caitlin currently lives in Los Angeles' Beachwood Canyon neighborhood with a large collection of whimsical vintage artwork and a cocker spaniel named Color.

Meet the team

Eliah Circle.jpg

Eliah Prichard, Project Manager

A tenacious problem solver with a dauntless approach to project management, Eliah moved to Los Angeles two years ago from the rainy valleys of Oregon. Eliah grew up in a large family whose members embrace a multitude of creative skills, including architecture, interior design, fine art, timber framing jewelry design and landscaping (to name a few).

Eliah took to fashion and art design from a young age and has extensive experience in event management. Fiercely dedicated to overtaking learning curves, Eliah graduated high school a year and a half early, finished a B.S. in psychology in 2012 and received her master's degree in couples and family therapy in 2015.

Eager to refocus on creative pursuits, Eliah began working in art production and collaborated with several prominent LA artists on a number of installations throughout 2016. With a strong disposition toward interior design (and a little bit of divine intervention), Eliah jumped on board with Black Lacquer Design in 2016 and cooly took to the grind of the interior design industry.

Eliah's focus is on maintaining an effortlessly open line of communication with clients and approaching project management from a thoughtful and proactive stance. Outside of work, she's no doubt knee deep in several other creative pursuits, networking like its going out of fashion, or daydreaming about ways to make life eternally enchanting.

Laura Circle.jpg

Laura Fairly, Design Coordinator

Boasting a first-rate attention to detail and an irresistibly inviting demeanor, Laura is as diligent as she is patient as the design coordinator at Black Lacquer Design. A Los Angeles native and middle child of three girls, Laura long ago mastered making the most of overlapping schedules and getting everyone on the same page. Hailing from a family in the furniture design industry, Laura has an inherited interest in the product and fabrication aspect of BLD projects.

Laura utilizes her ten years of experience spearheading  communications to run a well-oiled machine, working efficiently under the time pressures of purchasing and effortlessly tackling the tribulations of tracking. Prior to her professional pursuits, Laura earned a B.A. in English from U.C. Berkeley where she developed a know-how for research and a knack for all things literary. Keeping a laid back attitude while fine-tuning organizational systems, Laura enthusiastically ensures schedules are executed, products are in place, deadlines are delivered and everyone is happy.

After a short stint in the other sunshine state (Colorado), Laura joined Black Lacquer in 2016 and is a wonder woman when it comes to inter-department coordination. Laura is an unapologetically passionate reader of fiction and maintains an abiding desire to explore the best of LA with her canine companion. Keen to spend her free-time consuming unspeakable volumes of coffee, Laura is often connecting with loved ones in quirky cafes around the city or posted up writing her own stories someplace unexpected.
